Brett Smrz began racing at the age of twelve, after his father bought him a go-kart for Christmas. Immediately at home behind the wheel, Brett was competing nationally by his second year of kart racing, winning multiple national championships before graduating to the Mazda MX-5 Cup Series. One week after qualifying pole and finishing third in his first professional race in Houston, TX, Brett suffered a serious leg injury on a trampoline. Following ten complex surgeries he eventually lost his left leg below the knee. Despite this setback, Brett lost none of his singular determination to become a professional racing driver.

Following intense physical therapy, Brett was back in the cockpit only three months later for the San Francisco Formula Ford triple header at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. He celebrated by winning all three races, setting a new class track record, and earning the San Francisco Region Driver of the Year Award. Brett went on to win the Jim Russell Championship Series two years running, along with multiple podium finishes in the Mazda MX-5 Cup and the Skip Barber National Series.

These performances earned him a prestigious Team USA Scholarship as one of two Americans selected to compete in England against over 100 of the best young drivers in the world in the International Formula Ford Festival.

Previous recipiants of this scholarship include IndyCar champion Jimmy Vasser, Buddy Rice, A.J. Allmendinger, and Josef Newgarden. Brett had a brilliant international debut, qualifying on the front row at Brands Hatch and charging from the back of the field after contact in his semi-final race to finish third. At Silverstone Brett took a pole position and heat race win before finishing ninth in a damaged car in the renowned Walter Hayes Trophy race.

A young man of remarkable determination and proven talent, Brett Smrz has also established himself as an elite stunt driver in the film, commercial, and television industry with Drivers Inc., while actively pursuing sponsorship to realize his professional racing goals.
